Sleigh Bells Ring, Are Ya List’nin’?
In this month’s Throwback Thursday email, I shared a photo of the gazebo my husband proposed to me in on the side of snowy mountain at Nordic Village in Jackson New Hampshire. Around the corner from the property is a gem called Nestlenook Farm. If you turn you back to the cars in the parking lot, it’s as if you’ve stepped into a Courier & Ives Christmas scene–or into an Avonlea winter wonderland.
When we had kids, we just had to take them there! Our 2011 sleigh ride was less romantic and more adventurous than our cozy engagement outing in 2003. And when I began writing books, I had the best inspiration to draw from for my winters in Crane’s Cove and Palmer City.
There’s nothing quite so peaceful as a quiet twilight in the crisp White Mountains air when the only sound is the whispers of the sleigh runners cutting through the packed powder. A picture perfect skating pond! I wish I’d taken more photos. But alas, it was 2011, and I didn’t yet own a “camera phone.” 🙂 |
Growing up in Massachusetts, I spent much time in idyllic New Hampshire settings. It was an easy drive north, and I can tell you that the farm is just as beautiful in summertime. As is the pond at Nordic village, where my sister and I once got stuck in a rowboat. But that’s a story for another day…
You’ll find yourself immersed in the spirit of Nestlenook in all my winter books!
