December 2017

This Month:

Updates at!

  • It’s out! Love on the Edge is published and available! I can’t wait to hear what you think! If you love it, please, pretty please with a cherry on top, leave a review at Amazon and/or Goodreads. Amazon reviews are gold, literally. The more you have, the more they expose your books to potential buyers and it’s great for the rankings. Not sure what to say? Just leave 5 stars and the words “Loved it!” - that’s all it takes! XOXO!

  • If you know me personally, you know I have a servant’s heart and I love to give. I wrote my book for the purpose of educating loved ones about the PTSD their warriors go through, and I pray it brings light and grace to those who are living this story. 10% of the profits from the sale of this book will go to Sportsmen for Warriors, an organization committed enriching the lives of our military, veterans, and first responders. Their motto is “It takes a warrior to heal a warrior.” If you are a warrior (military, veteran, or first responder), you are invited to join this Facebook group where you will find a 24/7 community of support. Watch these videos or visit their page to learn more and donate if you feel led to.

  • Available now to all of my subscribers - bonus content, Meemaw’s Recipes! Meemaw is a character in the story that is a force! She’s part Rose Lindstrom Nyland and part Paula Deen, and many of my beta readers wanted more of her. She’ll appear in the next few books, and we’ll be adding recipe cards to the collection as we go. Special thanks to Valerie Willis of Battle Goddess Productions for designing the cards - I love how you can just fold them in half and stand them up on your counter!

  • Have you listened to the soundtrack on Spotify? This list of songs captures heart of the book. I listened to them for inspiration and to help me get my head back in the book on days I was stuck. If you are a writer, I highly recommend this technique!

  • Look for my Blog Tour! Here’s the ongoing list of places you’ll be able to find Love on the Edge spotlighted. Big thanks to Jaime Engle for managing this for me!

  • Lorelei’s Lit Lair spotlighted me on my launch day! Click here for fun Q&A and a giveaway (ends December 17th)!

  • Read on for five things I learned last month, giveaways, and events! May your Christmas be merry, your Hanukkah be happy, and your Festivus be fantastic!

  1. It takes time to go back and forth with cover design, formatting, uploading to CreateSpace and Amazon, and getting all the business stuff together when you are publishing a book. I’m still astonished I was able to keep to my deadline! Next time, I will have it all ready before I set a date. Look for Book 2 sometime late summer or early fall 2018. No solid release date yet, haha!

  2. “Showing up is 80% of life.” – Woody Allen

I posted this quote last month, and I’m posting it again. While I didn’t sell a physical book at Authors in a Box, many doors opened for me that day. People I met, groups I learned about, and the interview I was tricked into doing made it obvious I was supposed to be there. I sold several ebooks on Amazon from handing out my postcards, and one of the people who bought it posted a review stating how awesome s/he thought I was (and the book, too!) I was so humbled and thrilled, I cried at my computer. If it was you, THANK YOU! You made this girl’s week. I went from being disappointed and discouraged to ecstatic and understanding. As everything settles, I can see the big picture, and it is incredible. I gave books to two awesome reviewers, met a beautiful soul who happens to live near me and be part of an inspirational writing group (which she invited me to), spoke at length to the And I Thought Ladies (look up their show on Amazon!), got an awesome tip for breaking into bookstores by the host of the Hanging With web show, and survived my first on-camera interview with said host. Keep an eye out – I’ll be posting it as soon as it’s live!

  3. It is not advised to give your books to friends and family, even if they helped you write it, because they are likely the only ones who will buy your book until you get a following. Oops! LOL! I promised books to my beta readers for their time, and I will not go back on that. This story would not be what it is without their valuable input. And some of the friends and family will be getting books for Christmas because they cost a fortune, and I have not yet had time to go Christmas shopping! Haha! If you got a freebie from me, I would love it if you could leave a review for me on Amazon.  Also, the Kindle version is $2.99, your reviewed is then labeled as “verified,” and can be gifted…just sayin’! Haha!

  4. A busy, pretty display does not attract people to your booth. Big, tall signs, a bright tablecloth, and flashing lights are the way to go! So long, mini Christmas tree and gift baskets! Haha!

  5. Always take payment before you sign a book. Otherwise, you will grow a stack of books you can’t sell, unless you get very lucky! Lesson learned, mischief managed, etc...!
